Prison film has local tiesTwo Tampa Bay film producers have produced a psycho-thriller movie due for release next year.
Steve Matzkin and Sam Logan, of Los Angeles-based Fresh Produce Films, have just completed "Prisoner," starring Golden Globe nominee Julian McMahon.
Matzkin and Logan will begin negotiating with two major networks for movie releases next spring.
McMahon plays Dr. Christian Troy in the FX network series Nip/Tuck.
In the film, actor McMahon portrays "Derek Plato," a Hollywood film director who scouts an abandoned Tennessee State Prison (location of the prison used in the film "The Green Mile") only to become a hostage-victim of an omniscient jailer who systematically moves the victim closer and closer to the death chamber.
Fresh Produce Films, producers of Academy Award-winning "Wild Iris," also produced "Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession," which premiered for television on IFC May 9, 2005.
Matzin, who is founder and CEO of Dental Care Alliance in Sarasota, also is president and CEO of Sarasota-based Innovative Film Associates. He is in charge of operations, distribution and budgeting for Fresh Produce Films.
