Katee Sackhoff's upcoming four-episode stint on Nip/Tuck is undergoing what you might call an extreme makeover.

Sources confirm to me exclusively Rose McGowan has replaced Sackhoff in the role of Theodora "Teddy" Lowe, a doctor and potential love interest for Sean (Dylan Walsh). The recast comes on the heels of news that Sackhoff has inked a deal to headline NBC's Dick Wolf-produced cop pilot Lost and Found, so it's probably safe to assume that a scheduling conflict led her to back out of the Nip/Tuck gig.

For McGowan, the Nip/Tuck arc marks her first major TV role since Charmed went poof in 2006.

Production begins Monday on the sixth and final season of FX's "Nip/Tuck." As the show's actors get back to work, behind the scenes their representatives are deep in salary renegotiations.

Talks for stars Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh and regulars Joely Richardson, Kelly Carlson and Roma Maffia have been ongoing for weeks.

Heading into production on Season 5 in summer 2007, McMahon and Walsh saw their compensation upped to about $125,000 an episode, with Richardson close behind at about $100,000.

This year, McMahon and Walsh reportedly are seeking to double their salaries, and the other cast members also are seeking substantial raises.

Because all of the show's actors are under contract with "Nip/Tuck" producer Warner Bros. TV, talks have been held primarily with FX, which funded last year's cast paycheck bumps in the form of cash bonuses. A similar arrangement is expected this year, but the sides remain apart on money terms -- though an agreement could be reached this week.

To help with negotiations, McMahon and Walsh have added to their legal team seasoned litigator Marty Singer, who repped "The Sopranos" star James Gandolfini in his 2003 renegotiations-related lawsuit against HBO and also repped the supporting "Sopranos" players in their pursuit of paycheck increases for the show's final episodes.

A main argument for the "Nip/Tuck" stars is that while they will be available for other jobs, with the show slated to end its run in 2011, other networks might be reluctant to cast them in new roles while their "Nip/Tuck" characters still appear on FX.

As for today, despite the fact that McMahon did not show up for wardrobe last week, all of the show's actors are expected to return to work.

Reps for McMahon (WMA, Will Ward, Jake Bloom) and Walsh (Gersh, Bob McGowan, Rick Genow) declined comment.

"Nip/Tuck" is beginning the slow march to its series finale this week, when the cast and crew start filming the final 19 episodes. The last of those episodes won't air until more than two years from now; FX plans to air the remaining eight episodes of season five early next year, then split the final season into two pieces to air in 2010 and 2011.

Thought I'd give you an update on things. We started shooting a new season on Monday, for episodes that will air in 2010. Things are going well, the scripts are good, with a return to fantastically odd surgery stories. We have some Oscar winners on the show this season -- the return of Erica (Vanessa Redgrave, for a gripping two-parter) and Linda Hunt, who is one of my all-time favorites. Mario Lopez is back as well, joining the practice and showing off his abs for several episodes, which are really fun. Mario's character falls deeply in lust with Kimber, which of course Christian isn't happy with.

It feels like senior year here...winding down, heading towards the end. Both nice and slightly sad.

I am very excited about my new show Glee, which starts shooting Oct. 11. It's a one hour comedy with lots of musical numbers, which, if all goes well, will premiere behind American Idol in March. It's very different from N/T, more mainstream. I wrote it with Brad Falchuk, a writer on N/T, and a new writer, Ian Brennan. It's challenging because the pilot has something like 12 musical numbers! But its great to do something new.

I also start shooting my movie Eat/Pray/Love with Julia Roberts in April. Very excited about this one, Brad Pitt is producing, and it's a big big canvas. Julia is fantastic, so nice, everything you'd expect.
